Billions of new banknotes are printed every year globally. In fact, during COVID, we saw a significant increase in demand and production for new banknotes.

With banknotes being described as the “Business Card of a nation” it is important that the quality and integrity of those notes is unquestioned, and therefore the banknote production process must have checks and balances to ensure that only banknotes produced within acceptable tolerances are issued.

There are numerous quality checks at each stage of the production process, but only at the end of this process can individual notes be inspected prior to packing and shipping.

In recent times, Single Note Inspection Machines (SNIM) have increasingly been used to provide the final end of line quality inspection ensuring only the highest quality of banknotes are issued into circulation.

The CPS 9000™ machine is Single Note Inspection System, utilized by both Commercial and State Printworks around the world to ensure banknotes meet the defined quality standard. Please read on to discover how the 9000 can help your organization in the production of banknotes.

What is the 9000™ and how does it work?

The 9000™ is a single note inspection system that conducts end of line inspection and processing for fully printed banknotes. It has been developed to ensure your banknotes meet the defined quality standard, through a quality hardware system, traceability and high performance.

Using a state-of-the-art camera system, the 9000™ inspects the quality of every banknote to detect any that don’t meet the defined specification. The Banknote Quality Inspection System (BQIS™) examines quality in every element of the banknote and at every level of the feature recognition to detect any banknote the doesn’t meet the defined specification.

At ultra high speed, banknotes that meet the quality standard are strapped into packets and optional bundled, labelled and wrapped.

Any banknotes that have failed to meet the quality standard, are securely destroyed by a fully-integrated on-line shredder, or stacked for review and off-line destruction.

Throughout the process, inbuilt security systems will guard your banknotes. The exact progress and location of every single banknote are logged in real time by the Banknote Management Information System (BMIS™) allowing you to pinpoint the batch, bundle and even packet that a banknote can be found in.

Benefits of 9000™

  • Flexible

Open secure architecture giving the user full access and control of the system. Includes defining pocket types and inspection parameters for both print quality and authentication of security features.
  • Simple and intuitive

User interface provides graphically-illustrated task guidance and comprehensive diagnostic screens, increasing operator productivity and system availability.
  • Modular and configurable

Modular design of the 9000™ creates a fully configurable and customisable solution that will integrate seamlessly into your production environment.
  • High security

Robust system design ensures complete accounting integrity, access control and regulatory compliance.
  • Optimised performance

Leading-edge sensor design helps to ensure the correct sorting decisions are made on each banknote, improving overall operating efficiency.
  • Banknote handling

Advanced transport design improves the presentation and handling of banknotes. Inertial corners hold every banknote in a known and fixed position ensuring highly repeatable inspection decisions at the maximum transport speeds.
  • Multiple service options
Including remote diagnostics. Major components can be repaired and calibrated on-site, significantly reducing cost of ownership and increasing machine availability.
  • Advanced user interface

An advanced user interface makes the 9000™ easy to operate and service, maximising machine availability and productivity.

Who would use the 9000™?

Both Commercial and State Printworks would use the CPS 9000™, and this could be on 100% basis where all banknotes produced are inspected, or on a limited basis to recover notes that have been rejected via the Sheet Inspection System.
